About Robert
One of Maui’s most acclaimed Romantic Impressionists, Robert Wearn uses many varied mediums to render grand, emotionally stirring subjects. His work is in the treasured collections of many patrons all around the world. His Images instantly create a personal connection between the Artist’s vision and the viewer. He seeks the perfect balance between spontaneity and refinement to achieve a harmonious ethereal experience.
A highly trained artist, Robert began painting nearly fifty years ago in the art oriented community of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He became totally absorbed in the craft, technique, and spirit of his work. Robert earned his university degree in Fine Art from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, specializing in painting and print-making. Achieving early commercial success, he devised a strategy to see the country and the world, in order to experience life and pass this excitement on to his audience.
One of Robert’s favorite mediums is Airbrush which is now being recognized as one of the truly valid modern mediums of fine art.
In the 1970's, Robert had a successful airbrush commercial venture which produced over 70,000 individual works.
In 1980, 40 years ago, Robert discovered Maui, Hawaii, and when he moved here, far from family and friends he found himself inspired and at peace with the beauty of the tropics. Even as a young painter in his early high school years, he joyously copied tropical scenes and sunsets from National Geographic Magazines.
Now the dream is a reality, and his love of this part of the world deepens daily. His relationship with the sea and the land have had a profound effect on his sensibilities and aspirations.
“I am very fortunate to have these first hand encounters with my most favorite subject matters!”
Adding , My grand-father always cautioned, “You can’t eat a painting, you can’t wear a painting, you can’t sleep under a painting, whatcha’ going to do?” A practical man, my grandfather ran the only furniture factory in North Carolina that did not have to close down during the Great Depression. He worried about me, but both he and my mom, even though they knew better, let me be an artist anyway. I guess they saw something right about it.”
Now Robert uses oils almost exclusively , saying, “I find I can accomplish all of the effects I used to be able to do with airbrush, only now the range of the possibilities and techniques are far greater! I just love it.”
In the middle of his fourth decade on Maui, Robert is now an independent artist, and feels fortunate to be the Resident Artist of the Napili Kai Beach Resort where he has developed a significant following over the last 17 years.
Robert is available through commissions. He encourages visits when he is out on location, and to his studio in Maui Meadows, near Wailea. His art now graces collections from coast to coast, from Hawaii to the rest of the World!
